Historical Tour of Wainuiomata Many towns have walking tours to show visitors the local historical sites. There are many of these in Wainuiomata, and people do not realise just how old some of these are. For instance, the first school was built 20 years before the one in Petone. Similarly, the first church in Petone was built over 20 years later than the one in Wainuiomata. The problem is that at 73% of the land area of Hutt City, Wainuiomata is too big to walk between many of the points of interest. So, let your mouse do the walking on this virtual tour. You may want to visit some of the sites in person.
The Wainuiomata Historical Museum exists to encourage and promote the study of and interest in history generally and of that relating to Wainuiomata and its immediate surrounding areas in particular.
