Taken c1918-1921 at Meopham, Kent in a field behind the Cricket Green on a Bank Holiday. The picnic party was taken by brake to the field and they had tea at the Old Mill. Percy Gates is the only brother not with the groupd.

Phyllis married Cyril Gordon Brown (1908-1988) at Saint George's Church, Gravesend, Kent, England on 31 July 1937. The scouts provided a parade of honour and Phyllis' sister, Freda Emily Shields, and her husband George flanked the couple at the church door.
